NYCC 2014 — Joker

JOKER. 2014. Ink & watercolor on paper, 9 × 12″.

Issue 2 of The Valiant is nearly done, and several sites have posted an extensive art preview. In addition, Bleeding Cool has an exclusive look at my process for 4 of the digital pages from issue 1 (done in Photoshop with Kyle T. Webster's brushes). I'll have to save a full explanation for a later date, but those familiar with my previous posts will recognize the tried-and-true steps. Below is a traditional page, inked by my Dad, and colored in Photoshop.

And if you haven't had enough of The Valiant yet, here are 2 different interviews, Newsarama and CBR. Have a great weekend!

Wacky Reference Wednesdays, No. 270

Gouache, watercolor, and acrylic on illustration board, 16 × 24″.

Wacky Reference Wednesdays are back! You can see the complete art here. I'm still a bit under the gun with The Valiant, so I won't be doing the full process breakdown every week, but hopefully this will be enough on the entertainment front. Next week: me as Harry Potter... sort of.

The Valiant #3 Cover

Ink(ed by Joe Rivera) on bristol board with digital color, 11 × 17″.

Here's the cover for the 3rd issue of The Valiant. A detail of my Dad's inks are below. Each issue is taking me about 2 months, including digital colors. I inked most of the first issue digitally (using the nice brushes Kyle T. Webster gave me) and my Dad is inking roughly 2/3 of the remaining pages.

If all goes as planned this week, we'll have the long-awaited return of Wacky Reference Wednesdays!

I'm gonna try and get back to my regular blog schedule this week. Hopefully I can keep up. Have a great weekend!
